The pint-sized Sonos Roam 2 is more over 20 percent this weekend

Sonos is no stranger to the occasional sale. The iconic audio company routinely runs sales around Black Friday, Amazon Prime Day, and the Super Bowl, though it’s rare to see substantial discounts on its portable speakers outside of tentpole shopping events. Fortunately, if you have no interest in the Sonos Move 2 or forthcoming Sonos Play, the Sonos Roam 2 is currently available from Amazon, Walmart, and Sonos for $139 ($40 off), which is just $5 shy of its lowest price to date. Sonos Roam 2 Where to Buy: $179 $139 at Amazon $179 $139 at Sonos $179 $139 at Walmart The original Sonos Roam was by no means a bad speaker, but the quality-of-life updates on the Roam 2 are genuinely meaningful, particularly if you were the kind of person who constantly struggled to pair the first-gen model with anything via Bluetooth (guilty as charged). The latest Roam has a dedicated pairing button on the back — meaning you don’t have to hold down the power button for a set period of time just to sync it with a new phone — while still letting you tap into Sonos’ larger ecosystem of products via your home’s Wi-Fi network. Sound quality remains unchanged, though that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The first-gen Roam was one of the best-sounding speakers in its class, with pleasantly crisp vocal performance and enough depth to satiate most folks, especially when Sonos’s automatic Trueplay room optimization tool did its job. It’s a bit of a bummer that the USB-C port remains strictly for power, and that battery life tops out at 10 hours, but I’d venture that most folks are simply going to be using it at the park or simply for an afternoon at the pool. After all, it has IP67 waterproofing, which means it can withstand up to 30 minutes in 3 feet of water. Perhaps best of all, though, Sons claims to have made some tweaks and optimizations under the hood to ensure battery performance holds up in the long run, which was a crux of the original model. I haven’t had the Roam 2 long enough to

'Disaster' for Gulf states if Iran targets desalination plants

Iran on Saturday threatened to retaliate by targeting key infrastructure in neighbouring countries if US President Donald Trump follows through on his vow to “obliterate” the Islamic Republic’s power plants amid tensions over a blockage of the Strait of Hormuz. Journalist Hoda Abdel-Hamid, reporting from Doha, warned that such action would be a “disaster” for Gulf countries, noting that an attack on water desalination plants would be especially devastating as these nations depend on them for survival due to the lack of natural freshwater sources.

A massive freshwater reservoir is hiding under the Great Salt Lake

A hidden freshwater system deep beneath the Great Salt Lake has been revealed using airborne electromagnetic surveys. Scientists found that freshwater extends much farther under the lake than expected, reaching depths of up to 4 kilometers. The discovery began with mysterious reed-covered mounds formed by pressurized groundwater pushing upward. Researchers are now investigating whether this underground water could help control hazardous dust from the drying lakebed.

Hidden antibiotics in river fish spark new food safety fears

Antibiotics are accumulating in a major Brazilian river, especially during the dry season when pollution becomes more concentrated. Scientists even detected a banned drug inside fish sold for food, raising concerns about human exposure. A common aquatic plant showed promise in removing these chemicals from water—but it also altered how fish absorb them, creating unexpected risks.

A Minecraft theme park will open in London in 2027

A Minecraft theme park will open in London in 2027

The best-selling game of all time is moving from the virtual to the physical. Minecraft World, a permanent Greater London theme park based on the game, is scheduled to open in 2027. The announcement came during Minecraft Live 2026. It will be a new section in Chessington World of Adventures, a theme park with a built-in zoo. The resort is a 35-minute train ride from London's Waterloo station. Details are still fairly light on the park. But we know it will include a roller coaster, "interactive adventures" and "epic block-built playscapes." Torfi Frans Ólafsson, the game franchise's creative director, said they're aiming for "an experience that feels immersive, authentic and welcoming." Naturally, that will include welcoming you to open your wallet in Minecraft-themed retail and dining spots. The park is a collaboration between Mojang Studios and Merlin Entertainments, the world's second-largest theme park builder. (A certain rodent-led empire is first.) If visiting the full theme park in England isn't your thing, the latest location of the game’s (also real-world) pop-up events will open in May. Minecraft Experience: Moonlight Trail will let visitors in Buenos Aires, Argentina, go on an hour-long outdoor nighttime adventure. As its name suggests, you'll "walk a moonlit trail” through iconic Minecraft biomes. Along the way, you’ll craft gear, mine diamonds, battle mobs and “help restore an ancient beacon." The event opens in May. The game's next big drop, Tiny Takeover, arrives on Tuesday. Mojang Studios Not all of Minecraft Live's announcements were about real-world empire building. Minecraft, the game, is getting some updates, too. Its next big drop, Tiny Takeover, will live up to the billing with a redesigned "cuter" look for baby mobs. The update will also add a golden dandelion, which you can feed to a baby mob to make it stay young forever. (Or, at least until you feed it a second one.) Tiny Takeover arrives on March 24. Mojang also teased the next drop after

The AirPods Pro 3 are $50 off right now, nearly matching their best-ever price

Less than a week ago, Apple announced the forthcoming AirPods Max 2, a pair of over-ear headphones that leverage the company’s H2 chip for AI-powered live translation, conversation awareness, and a host of newer features. However, if you’re okay with a pair of earbuds, the AirPods Pro 3 offer access to all the same features for less — especially given they’re currently on sale at Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy for $199.99 ($50 off), matching their second-best price to date. AirPods Pro 3 Where to Buy: $249.99 $199.99 at Best Buy $249 $199.99 at Amazon $249 $199.99 at Walmart For iPhone owners, nothing else really compares to the AirPods Pro 3. Apple’s latest pair of premium earbuds deliver the best active noise cancellation and richest sound of any AirPods model to date, combined with a more comfortable, angled design that fits securely and naturally in your ear canal. They also feature a new XXS ear tip size and a more robust IP57 rating for sweat and water resistance, making them better suited for long-distance runs and various gym activities. Speaking of workouts, the Pro 3 can also pull double duty as a fitness tracker, thanks to a built-in heart rate sensor that works with Apple’s Fitness app to track calories burned across more than 50 workout types. It’s a welcome addition if you don’t use an Apple Watch; however, it may not be as useful for those who already own and rely on Apple’s wearable for its health tracking and wellness features. Lastly, as mentioned up top, the AirPods Pro 3 also boast an H2 chip, allowing for the aforementioned real-time translation features and Apple’s newer Voice Isolation tech, which uses machine learning to isolate and enhance voice quality by removing unwanted background noise. That’s on top of their seamless integration with other Apple devices, mind you, which lets you take advantage of automatic device switching and a Find My-compatible charging case. Hawaii suffers worst flooding in 20 years, with more rain expected

Hawaii suffered its worst flooding in more than 20 years as heavy rains fell on soil already saturated by downpours from a winter storm a week ago, officials said on Friday, while warning that more rain was expected during the weekend. Muddy floodwaters smothered vast stretches of Oahu’s North Shore, a community world renowned for its big-wave surfing. Raging waters lifted homes and cars and prompted evacuation orders for 5,500 people north of Honolulu. Authorities cautioned that a 120-year-old...

Dreame’s self-cleaning L10s Pro Ultra is nearly $1,000 off its original list price

Amazon’s Big Spring Sale doesn’t kick off until next week, but the retailer is already dropping a host of good deals, especially on robot vacuums. We recently saw Ecovacs’ Deebot X8 and X9 Pro Omni drop to $599 ($501 off) and $679 ($621 off), respectively; however, if you’re looking for a cheaper robot vacuum / mop, the Dreame L10s Pro Ultra is down to $349.98 ($950 off its original list price) at Amazon, matching its lowest price to date. You can also pick it up from Best Buy and Dreame for the same price, the latter with code L10PUXM.  Dreame L10s Pro Ultra Robot Vacuum Where to Buy: $1299.99 $349.98 at Amazon $1299.99 $349.99 at Best Buy $1299.99 $349.99 at Dreame (with code L10PUXM) The L10s Pro Ultra is designed to be as low-maintenance as possible. The vacuum’s self-cleaning dock can wash the mops with hot water, dry them with hot air, and automatically dispense cleaning solution. The dock can also empty the robovac’s contents into a 3.2L dust bag, allowing you to go 75 days without emptying it yourself, and refills the water tank as needed. You don’t need to constantly keep an eye on the robovac, either; it uses lidar navigation to map your home and AI-powered obstacle avoidance to clean around clutter. While it’s not as powerful as higher-end models like the aforementioned Ecovacs, the L10s Pro Ultra still delivers a respectable 7,000Pa of suction. It does a good job cleaning hardwood floors, too, with a mop that can lift itself to avoid getting carpets wet and extend into edges, corners, and other hard-to-reach areas. It also lets you choose which rooms to clean, and uses AI to adjust its cleaning approach based on the room type and layout. Plus, it can automatically return to mop areas if it detects they’re still dirty, providing for a more thorough clean.

Himalayas’ glacier loss threatens 2 billion people in ‘greatest problem of climate change’

Accelerating glacial retreat in the Himalayas over the past decades is threatening over 2 billion people in the region who depend on meltwater from the “water tower of Asia” for their daily needs, according to climate scientists. Glaciers in the Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) region have been losing ice at twice the rate since 2000, with smaller glaciers under 0.5 sq km shrinking more rapidly than larger ones, according to two landmark reports published on Saturday to coincide with the World Day for...

Iran war exposes Gulf economies' food, water vulnerability

The spiralling conflict in Iran has highlighted the potential vulnerability of Gulf states when it comes to food and water security. Countries like Bahrain and Qatar depend heavily on desalinated water, and strikes on desalination plants have sparked concern about water supplies. Meanwhile, the usual flow of food imports through the Strait of Hormuz has been disrupted by the fighting.

EU summit to focus on wars in the Middle East and Ukraine

European Union leaders are holding a summit in Brussels on Thursday for talks on the Iran war, energy prices, migration and an enormous loan for war-ravaged Ukraine being held up by Hungary. Many of those leaders have deflected entreaties by US President Donald Trump to send military assets to secure the Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway for the global flow of oil, gas and fertilizer. FRANCE 24's Dave Keating reports from Brussels.

China is weathering the Iran war oil shock better than others in Asia

As the war in Iran rages and the consequences of the shock to commodity markets become clearer, the vulnerability of Asia’s economies tops the list of concerns in the research reports of investment banks. The region’s reliance on energy imports from the Gulf has come under scrutiny. The facts speak for themselves.
