Academic City University, Ghana has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the American University of Antigua College of Medicine (AUA) to expand opportunities for Ghanaian students seeking careers in medicine. The American University of Antigua College of Medicine (AUA) is an innovative medical school dedicated to providing a learner-centric education of the highest quality, granting opportunities to underrepresented minorities, fostering a diverse academic community, and ensuring that its graduates develop the skills and attitudes of lifelong learning, compassion, and professionalism. The agreement between Academic City and AUA is aimed at strengthening academic collaboration between the two institutions while creating clear pathways for students to access medical education and training abroad. Under the partnership, graduates of Academic City University who meet the required admission criteria will be granted guaranteed admission into AUA’s Doctor of Medicine (MD) programme. Beneficiaries will also enjoy a waiver of the application fee, an expedited admissions process and a waiver of the pre-registration seat deposit upon acceptance. The collaboration further provides financial support to help reduce the cost of medical education. Eligible Academic City graduates admitted into the MD programme will qualify for a $5,000 Preferred Programme Grant, to be paid in installments during the pre-clinical phase of the programme. AUA is expected to award up to 15 of such grants annually across its three academic intakes. In addition to the grant, students may also be considered for other scholarships and awards, including those aimed at promoting diversity within the medical profession. Commenting on the agreement, the Vice-President for Institutional Advancement at Academic City University, Ing. Dr. Lucy Agyepong, said the partnership would deepen international academic cooperation and open up more opportunities for students to contribute meaningfully to the health sector in Ghana and beyond. She added that the agreement also encourages academic exchange through the sharing of faculty expertise, research opportunities and learning resources. “At Academic City University, we remain committed to providing student-centered education and strengthening pathways for students to pursue professional careers in healthcare,” she added. AUA President, Dr. Peter Bell stated that “American University of Antigua is looking forward to welcoming students from Academic City University, Ghana to our program. The collaboration between both institutions will provide qualified students with the opportunity to become physicians well prepared to provide care to diverse patient populations in a global setting.” Post Views: 44 Discover more from The Business & Financial Times Subscribe to get the latest posts sent to your email.
