"We returned from hell’: Rights group raises alarm over torture in Israeli jails

The Committee to Protect Journalists published a report alleging the systematic abuse of Palestinian media workers in Israeli detention centers between 2023 and 2026. Through interviews with dozens of former detainees, the organization documented harrowing accounts of torture, starvation, and sexual violence aimed at silencing the press. The findings highlight that the majority of these journalists were held under administrative detention without formal charges or access to legal counsel. Evidence such as medical records and photographs supports claims of extreme weight loss and untreated injuries resulting from physical beatings. The advocacy group is now calling for international accountability and independent investigations into these alleged violations of humanitarian law. Despite these testimonies, the Israeli military maintains that it adheres to international standards and does not intentionally target members of the media.

Trump says raising US global tariff rate from 10 per cent to 15 per cent

A day after his stunning loss at the US Supreme Court, President Donald Trump said on Saturday he is raising from 10 to 15 per cent a temporary tariff rate on imports from all countries. “I, as President of the United States of America, will be, effective immediately, raising the 10 per cent Worldwide Tariff on Countries, many of which have been “ripping” the US off for decades, without retribution (until I came along!), to the fully allowed, and legally tested, 15 per cent level,” he said on...

'A check on executive authority': Supreme Court delivers blow to Trump’s tariffs

The Supreme Court struck down President Donald Trump's far-reaching global tariffs on Friday, delivering a stinging loss that prompted a fierce attack on the court he helped shape. The ruling was significant because it marked "a rare instance" of the Supreme Court acting as "a check on executive authority", FRANCE 24's Douglas Herbert said. Herbert noted that the decision demonstrated the court's willingness to exercise its independence on certain issues, even though it had sided with Trump on previous cases.

Kirkland Star Lawyer’s Antitrust Warning Sowed Seeds of His Own Exit

For the better part of 15 years at law firm Kirkland & Ellis, David Nemecek made a career out of exploiting loose lending agreements to perfect what would become a well-worn dance in the world of distressed corporate debt: Craft a debt overhaul too good for one set of a company’s creditors to pass up while leaving other creditors with scraps and buying precious time for the company’s private equity owners to avoid losses.

Stellantis is in a crisis of its own making

Antonio Filosa attends the presentation of the new Fiat 500 Hybrid at the Stellantis FIAT Mirafiori plant in Turin, Italy, in November of 2025. | Elisa Marchina/NurPhoto via Getty Images Demand for EVs has gone glacial, and one automaker after another is running aground: General Motors threw $7.6 billion overboard. Ford washed $19.5 billion off its books. Leave it to Stellantis to face the most titanic charge yet, a $26.5 billion bill for its own misplaced bet on EVs. The Jeep, Dodge, and Chrysler parent company hasn't said how much of that unfathomable sum is explicitly due to EV losses, as the write-down wiped away about 25 percent of the company's stock value overnight. Every automaker faces the same cooling EV demand and whipsawing political climate, yet Stellantis appears the most exposed, due in part to longstanding … Read the full story at The Verge.

US Supreme Court strikes down Trump's sweeping tariffs

The Supreme Court struck down President Donald Trump's far-reaching global tariffs on Friday, handing him a stinging loss that sparked a furious attack on the court he helped shape. But an unbowed Trump pledged to impose a new global 10% tariff under a law that's restricted to 150 days and has never been used to apply tariffs before.

NASA targets March 6 for Artemis 2 launch to take astronauts around the Moon

The Artemis 2 launch is edging closer as NASA has now set a target date for the 10-day mission to get underway. The agency is aiming to launch as soon as March 6 following a successful wet dress rehearsal on Thursday. The first attempt, which took place in early February, failed due to a hydrogen leak. During Thursday's rehearsal, NASA was able to fuel the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket with more than 700,000 gallons of liquid propellant and complete two runs of terminal count — the final step of the launch countdown — at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. While there was a hiccup due to a loss of ground communications, NASA was able to move to a backup system before the regular comms channels were back in operation. The agency said engineers pinpointed the equipment that caused the problem. "Following that successful wet dress yesterday, we're now targeting March 6 as our earliest launch attempt," Dr. Lori Glaze, NASA's Moon to Mars program manager, said at a press conference on Friday. Glaze added that there's still much that has to be done before launch, including an analysis of the wet dress, a flight-readiness review and work on the launch pad. The four Artemis 2 astronauts are expected to go into quarantine later on Friday in preparation for the launch, which will mark the Orion spacecraft’s first crewed mission. It will be the first time in more than 50 years that a crew will travel around the Moon and it will be humanity’s furthest-ever journey into space. The astronauts will test Orion’s critical life support systems as a precursor to lunar landings.
