IO Interactive splits with MindsEye developer and ends Hitman collab

MindsEye developer Build a Rocket Boy (BARB) has gone through serious drama recently including layoffs and accusations of sabotage. Now, the company is parting ways with its MindsEye co-publisher IOI Partners (the company behind Hitman publisher IO Interactive) and assuming sole publishing responsibilities going forward. It also means that a planned MindsEye and Hitman collaboration will be cancelled, the companies announced in a press release.  "IOI Partners’ involvement with MindsEye comes to an end, except for any essential transitional functions required to transfer publisher-of-record status to Build A Rocket Boy," the companies stated. "In light of this separation, the Hitman mission announced in June 2025, planned as a crossover event within MindsEye, will no longer be released." They acknowledged that the announcement is likely to spur disappointment among funs and thanked the community for its support.  The publishing deal was a first for IOI partners and looked promising, considering the pedigree of BARB's co-CEO Leslie Benzies as a former Rockstar North president and GTA producer. However, MindsEye was widely criticized upon release due to bugs, a lackluster story and mediocre gameplay.  At the same time, employees penned an open letter accusing Benzies of mismanaging the game and bungling layoffs. In response, Benzies and co-CEO Mark Gerhard said that negative pre-release feedback came about to due internal and external sabotage, a claim that employees reportedly doubted. In any case, BARB is now on its own and has a tall order to save MindsEye, particularly after recent layoffs.  This article originally appeared on Engadget at https://www.engadget.com/gaming/io-interactive-splits-with-mindseye-developer-and-ends-hitman-collab-110028292.html?src=rss

Hong Kong actor Gregory Wong loses appeal against 2019 Legco storming conviction

Hong Kong actor Gregory Wong Chung-yiu has lost an appeal against his conviction and jail sentence of six years and two months for abetting a riot at the Legislative Council Complex during the 2019 anti-government protests. In a written judgment delivered on Wednesday, the Court of Appeal also dismissed the complaints by six others convicted in the high-profile case. The appellants had argued their jail terms of at least four years and 7½ months were manifestly excessive. Wong was among 14...

The Beats Studio Pro are nearly $200 off ahead of Amazon’s big spring sale

Earlier this week, Apple unveiled the AirPods Max 2. The forthcoming over-ear headphones build on their predecessor with an H2 chip that powers a range of new features; however, they still don’t offer the sort of cross-OS compatibility you’ll get with a modern pair of Beats headphones — including the Beats Studio Pro, which are on sale at Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy for an all-time low of around $169.95 ($180 off) in the run-up to Amazon’s annual Big Spring Sale. Beats Studio Pro Where to Buy: $349.99 $169.95 at Amazon $349.99 $169.99 at Best Buy $349.99 $169.95 at Walmart Although they’re undoubtedly getting a little long in the tooth — the Beats design hasn’t fundamentally changed since 2017 — the Beats Studio Pro remain a solid pair of platform-agnostic headphones, particularly at this price. They offer one-touch pairing with both iOS and Android devices, along with support for Apple’s Find My and Google’s Find Hub networks, allowing you to locate them a little easier should you ever misplace them. Apple users get hands-free Siri access and support for head-tracking spatial audio, while Android folks get an AirPods-like audio switching trick that lets you effortlessly jump between different Android devices (phones, Chromebooks, etc.). As far as sound quality is concerned, the Studio Pro aren’t going to rival that of newer options like Bose’s latest QuietComfort Ultra or Sony’s WH-1000XM6 (or even the last-gen XM5, for that matter). Their custom 40mm drivers don’t deliver anything exceptional, but their signature is balanced and decent enough, even if it sheds some of the low-end oomph for which Beats was once known. Plus, they offer an excellent transparency mode for piping outside noise and support lossless playback over USB-C, letting you leverage 24-bit / 48kHz  audio from compatible platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. Now, if only USB-C playback didn’t disable all access to their noise cancellation and transparency modes when active

Xi pushes Belt and Road Initiative port alliance amid Iran war, Panama Canal dispute

President Xi Jinping has vowed to advance the creation of an international port alliance under the Belt and Road Initiative, at a time when the world’s top merchandise exporter confronts mounting challenges to global shipping routes – from the Strait of Hormuz to Panama. An excerpt of his speech, initially given at a closed-door meeting on July 1, 2025, was first published on Monday by Qiushi, the Communist Party’s top theoretical journal. “[China needs to] deeply participate in global ocean...

Ecovacs’ Deebot X8 and X9 Pro Omni robovacs are nearly 50 percent off

The Ecovacs Deebot X8 Pro Omni offer a range of smarts for a relatively affordable price. | Image: Ecovacs If you like the idea of spring cleaning but not the part where you actually have to clean, both the Ecovacs Deebot X8 Pro Omni and newer X9 Pro Omni have dropped to their lowest prices to date ahead of Amazon’s Big Spring Sale, which officially kicks off on March 25th. The X8 Pro Omni is available for $599 ($501 off) from Amazon, Best Buy, and Ecovacs, while the X9 Pro Omni is on sale for $679 ($621 off) at the same retailers (Amazon, Best Buy, Ecovacs). Deebot X8 Pro Omni Where to Buy: $1099.99 $599 at Amazon $1099.99 $599 at Ecovacs $1099.99 $599 at Best Buy Ecovacs Deebot X9 Pro Omni Where to Buy: $1299.99 $679 at Amazon $1299.99 $679 at Ecovacs $1299.99 $679 at Best Buy Both robot vacuums are packed with smart features designed to reduce the time you spend cleaning. Using lidar and a 3D camera for mapping, they can deftly navigate around furniture and baseboards, and even identify and avoid potential obstacles. The roller mop on both models also cleans itself while it works, and each robovac comes with a multifunction dock with a built-in water tank, allowing them to refill themselves and move dirty water into a separate waste tank. You can also use either the companion app or voice commands to control them thanks to their support for Matter, which lets you connect them to platforms like Alexa and Google Home. Both models are excellent cleaning devices, too, and each uses an extendable roller mop that can apply up to 4,000Pa of pressure and reach hard-to-clean areas (including corners). The biggest differences between the two models come down to how they handle suction and airflow while vacuuming. For instance, the last-gen X8 Pro Omni offers slightly more powerful suction at 18,000Pa, compared to 16,600Pa on the X9. The X9 Pro Omni, meanwhile, leverages Ecovacs’ Boosted Large-Airflow Suction Technology, which moves more air through the vacuu

Apple announces the AirPods Max 2 with improved noise cancelation and H2 chip

The AirPods Max 2 are almost here. Apple announced this morning that the first true update to its over-hear phones are up for pre-order on March 25 and will be shipping in early April. They look identical to the predecessor, with large, colorful earcups and a matching headband. But inside is the H2 chip that Apple first introduced with the AirPods Pro 2, which enables a host of new features. Chief among those is improved noise cancelation — Apple says with the H2 and improved audio algorithms, the AirPods Max 2 are 1.5 times more effective at reducing noise than the old model. From an audio perspective, there’s a new amplifier on board here as well for clearer music and improved spatial audio performance. If you want lossless music, you can get that by using the included USB-C cable. There are also a host of new features for the AirPods Max 2 enabled by the H2. These include an “Adaptive Audio” mode that balances between transparency and ANC modes depending on the environment so you can hear things when you need to while still blocking extraneous noise. Similarly, the conversation awareness features lower the volume of your content and increase transparency when your’e speaking. Live Translation comes to the AirPods Max 2 as well, a feature that uses your AirPods and iPhone to translate incoming speech to and from the language of your choosing. Apple AirPods Max 2 colors Apple Essentially, the AirPods Max 2 now have almost all the features you’ll find in the AirPods Pro 3, just in an over-ear design. What hasn’t changed is the price — AirPods Max 2 still cost $549, notably more than most of the competition. Despite the high price, the first AirPods Max did sound exceptional — they’ve just been hard to recommend for years because of the aging feature set and cost. Given that the first AirPods Max were released in 2020, these new headphones are long overdue and are probably what we should have got in 2024 when Apple added USB-C but otherwise didn’t change anything

44% abstention: French local elections 'poorly attended dress rehearsal' for 2027 presidential race

Following France's lowest voter turnout since the COVID pandemic, Eve Irvine is pleased to welcome Dr. Andrew Smith, Historian of Modern France and Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London. According to Dr. Smith, the defining feature of these municipal elections is not the performance of any single political force. The level of abstention marked the elections more than any other storyline: With roughly 44% of voters staying away, turnout has dropped dramatically compared with earlier decades when participation often exceeded sixty percent and even approached eighty percent in the 1980s.

Philippines’ Jollibee stands out as Southeast Asia’s global restaurant exception

From Singapore’s hawker stalls to Thailand’s street markets and Vietnam’s noodle shops, Southeast Asia is home to some of the world’s most celebrated food cultures. Yet the region has produced relatively few restaurant chains with global brand recognition, even as Chinese food and beverage groups climb international rankings. Analysts say structural factors – including smaller domestic markets, fragmented regional consumer tastes and fewer brands expanding aggressively overseas – have slowed the...

Anthropic is doubling Claude's usage limits during off-peak hours for the next two weeks

To capitalize on Claude's recent spike in popularity, Anthropic is offering a limited-time promotion that doubles usage limits for anyone using its AI chatbot during off-peak hours. From March 13 to March 27, users on Free, Pro, Max, and Team plans will get double the usage limits in a five-hour window when using Claude outside weekday hours between 8 AM and 2 PM ET. According to Anthropic, the promotion is automatic, and users don't have to enable anything to get the benefits. A small thank you to everyone using Claude: We’re doubling usage outside our peak hours for the next two weeks. pic.twitter.com/W7TEBPditq — Claude (@claudeai) March 14, 2026 Anthropic said that this promotion applies to anyone using Claude on web, desktop or mobile, but also with Cowork, Claude Code, Claude for Excel and Claude for PowerPoint. Previously, Anthropic offered a similar event from December 25 to December 31, doubling usage limits for Pro, Max 5x or Max 20x subscribers. However, Anthropic is targeting an even wider audience with its latest promotion since only Enterprise users are excluded this time around. Anthropic is marketing the promotion as a "small thank you to everyone using Claude," but it's likely tied to its ongoing battle with the Department of Defense. After refusing to remove certain AI safeguards for the Department of Defense, Anthropic was listed as a supply chain risk and lost its contract with the federal agency. In turn, OpenAI signed a deal with the Department of Defense, leading to many users deciding to boycott ChatGPT in favor of Claude and other AI chatbot options.
