The ride-sharing app is launching Uber Aurora, a free service that will be available on certain dates in March. The offering will coincide with a peak period of solar activity, when the celestial phenomenon will be particularly intense. Uber launches aurora-viewing rides in Lapland Uber Aurora rides will be available during the spring equinox weekend, on 20 and 21 March, in Rovaniemi, Lapland. Users can book the service on their phones via the Uber app. The experience includes pick up and drop off around Rovaniemi, and snacks and hot drinks provided en route. Participants enjoy six to eight hours of guided Northern Lights-viewing, led by experts from local tour provider Arctic GM who know all the best sighting locations and photo opportunities. The service is being offered free of charge, but there will be limited spaces available. Northern Lights are at their peak this winter A surge in solar activity has turned the Northern Lights into one of the most “sought-after travel experiences of the decade”, online travel agency eSkyGroup tells Euronews Travel. In the 2024/2025 winter season, the company witnessed a significant increase in travel interest to Nordic countries. The largest growth in the number of bookings has been recorded for Finland, which increased by a staggering 2,300 per cent. “Seeing the Northern Lights is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many visitors,” says Alexander Rytilahti, Manager at Arctic GM. "We’re excited to combine our local knowledge with Uber’s platform to give guests the best possible chance to experience the aurora in a comfortable, easy and safe way." Uber launches snowmobile rides in the Dolomites Uber also recently launched snowmobile rides in Italy’s Dolomites. The service takes users to the base of the Three Peaks of Lavaredo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The dramatic, jagged limestone pinnacles stand just 23 kilometres from the Cortina venues where athletes are competing in the 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics. The 'Uber Snowmobile' tours include a ride in an Uber transfer bus for up to eight people from Cortina to the spot where riders mount their snowmobiles for departure. Tourgoers then follow the instructor, who leads the line of snowmobiles. The service is available for one month starting from 7 February.
