Picture by Keegan Carroll"We take this step with sadness, not bitterness. The resigning members of campaign team remain committed to the progressive values that bind us together and to the work of community-based, grassroots campaigning that makes our party strong," the group told party members in an email. The email said a majority of the group had chosen to resign, while the rest would resign in support to open up casual vacancies in the key party working group."Our promise to members when we nominated to join the campaign team was to create space for collaborative, whole-of-party campaign planning and mutual learning, to develop campaign resources to enable members to engage in their own communities, and to deliver training and support to ensure members are empowered not just to be part of campaigns, but to run their own campaigns," the group's email said."Commencing discussions with the Canberra Liberals about forming government without first consulting with the broader party membership or the campaign team has, in our view, undermined our ability to deliver on this promise."The campaign team has been unable to gain clarity regarding the pathway forward for grassroots campaigning, and therefore does not believe it has the right authorising environment to continue. Taking time to gain more clarity will ensure the right authorising environment to pursue the campaign team role in the context that has emerged."Ms Vassarotti was contacted for comment. The party's office bearers' handbook says the campaign team is "responsible for leading the party's outreach and engagement with the community by overseeing the strategy, planning and implementation of both election and non-election campaigns".The campaign team needs to "work closely with the relevant Assembly teams to ensure consistency of approach and to avoid duplication of work or contradictory messaging" and "devise and implement strategies for issues-based and non-election campaigns".Members of the campaign team are elected at the Greens' annual general meeting. The leader's statement followed former Liberal leader Leanne Castley using a surprise speech in the Legislative Assembly to declare a power-sharing deal between the two parties would not allow the Liberals to stay true to their values.Twice weeklyVoice of Real AustraliaGet real, Australia!
