A prominent Indigenous leader from Amherstview, Dr. Jamaica Cass, is one of 30 people to be named to the Order of Ontario this year.A nationally-recognized leader in Indigenous health and medical education, Dr. Jamaica Cass is the first Indigenous woman in Canada to earn both a Doctor of Medicine and a Doctor of Philosophy.She drives systemic change through governance, curriculum reform and national best-practice guidelines.Her leadership and mentorship advance Truth and Reconciliation, expand representation and transform health outcomes for Indigenous communities.The date for the induction ceremony for the 2025 nominees has not yet been set.
