The new $25 action game from the creator of Just Cause arrives on April 8

We’re still waiting for releases dates for Remedy’s in-development Max Payne remakes, but if you’re in need of a noir fix sooner than that, keep an eye on Liquid Swords’ Samson: A Tyndalston Story, which just got a release date of April 8. The debut game from a new studio formed by Just Cause creator Christofer Sundberg, Samson looks like a tighter, more narrative-led experience than Avalanche’s proudly ridiculous open-world series, but no less packed with over-the-top action. You play as the eponymous Samson McRay, a man down on his luck and seriously in debt in the punishing city of Tyndalston. "Samson is built on a simple, brutal truth: every day has a cost," said the developer in a press release. "Debt grows with interest, and time is not on your side. Each job burns a limited pool of Action Points, and every decision shifts how the city treats you— there are no do-overs. Players have to move forward because standing still makes everything worse." Sundberg, who by his own admission has spent much of his career making "massive" games and sounds a bit worn out by it all, says his studio set out to make a bloat-free experience for "fans of gritty ‘90s action flicks," which will be music to the ears of anyone who likes blasting through a game in a handful of weekends. For more on gameplay, check out this recent developer diary focused on combat and driving sections. Samson’s brevity is seemingly also reflected in its $25 price tag. It will be a PC exclusive at launch (via Steam and the Epic Games Store), with no word on a console release right now. Launch HN: Cardboard (YC W26) – Agentic video editor

Hey HN - we're Saksham and Ishan, and we’re building Cardboard (https://www.usecardboard.com). It lets you go from raw footage to an edited video by describing what you want in natural language. Try it out at https://demo.usecardboard.com (no login required). Also, there’s a demo video at: https://www.usecardboard.com/share/fUN2i9ft8B46 People sit on mountains of raw assets - product walkthroughs, customer interviews, travel videos, screen recordings, changelogs, etc. - that could become testimonials, ads, vlogs, launch videos, etc. Instead they sit in cloud storage / hard drives because getting to a first cut takes hours of scrubbing through the raw footage manually, arranging clips in correct sequence, syncing music, exporting, uploading to a cloud storage to share, and then getting feedback on WhatsApp/iMessage/Slack, then re-doing the same thing again till everyone is happy. We grew up together and have been friends for 15 years. Saksham creates content on socials with ~250K views/month and kept hitting the wall where editing took longer than creating. Ishan was producing launch videos for HackerRank's all-hands demo days and spent most of his time on cuts and sequencing rather than storytelling. We both felt that while tools like Premiere Pro and DaVinci are powerful, they have a steep learning curve and involve lots of manual labor. So we built Cardboard. You tell it to "make a 60s recap from this raw footage" or "cut this into a 20s ad" or "beat-sync this to the music I just added" and it proposes a first draft on the timeline that you can refine further. We built a custom hardware-accelerated renderer on WebCodecs / WebGL2, there’s no server-side rendering, no plugins, everything runs in your browser (client-side). Video understanding tasks go through a series of Cloud VLMs + traditional ML models, and we use third party foundational models for agent orchestration. We also give a dropdown for this to the end user. We've shipped 13 releases since November (ht

8BitDo’s customizable Pro 3 controller is $30 off for the first time

Woot is offering steep discounts on many video games and accessories, some of which are fairly recent releases. No matter what you choose from its sale catalog, you can get up to $30 off your order with the code LEVEL20 used at checkout through the end of the day on February 27th (the sale lasts through March 5th, but the coupon ends beforehand). 8BitDo’s highly customizable Pro 3 controller for Switch 2, PC and mobile devices is getting its biggest discount at Woot, selling for $39.99 (originally $69.99) with the code applied, or $49.99 without the code. 8BitDo Pro 3 Wireless Controller The Pro 3 features swappable ABXY face buttons and joystick caps, providing players with a highly customizable experience. It also features new L4 and R4 macro buttons between the triggers and its USB-C charging port, along with more durable and power efficient TMR joysticks. Where to Buy: $69.99 $39.99 at Woot (with code LEVEL20) The Pro 3 is a great, comfortable controller, and its swappable, magnetic face buttons are one of its top features. You can adjust the button layout from Switch to Xbox, or swap them for them for unlabeled button faces that are included with each controller. In terms of hardware features, the Pro 3 is similar to the Ultimate 2, packing TMR joysticks, triggers with adjustable stops, and extra macro buttons. One of the key differences, however, is that it has a PlayStation-style stick layout. It can wake the Switch 2, but its rumble performance is behind some of our favorite Switch 2 controllers. Read our review. Other Verge-approved deals Samsung debuted its new Galaxy S26 phones this week along with some new wireless earbuds, the Galaxy Buds 4 lineup. There’s a great preorder deal on the S26 phone, and you can also get a freebie with either of its Buds 4 and Buds 4 Pro. Amazon is offering a free gift card with both sets. The $179.99 Buds 4 include a $20 gift card — not bad — and the $249.99 Buds 4 Pro that offer improved sound and battery life include

From forbidden gay love to kinky queer romance: The latest film releases

In this edition of our film show, critic Emma Jones talks to Eve Jackson about the latest film releases, including "The History of Sound" from director Oliver Hermanus. It stars Paul Mescal and Josh O'Connor as two men who fall in love in the shadow of World War I. The film premiered in competition at Cannes to lukewarm reviews, but Emma argues its quiet, repressed portrayal of a gay relationship shaped by its era is exactly what gives it emotional force.

A new Evangelion series is coming from Studio Khara and Yoko Taro, creator of NieR

Anime fans rejoice, as there's a new Neon Genesis Evangelion series on the horizon. This was announced during a 30th anniversary event held in Japan. The bad news? Franchise creator Hideaki Anno won't be writing the scripts. However, his replacement will be Yoko Taro, the guy who created the video game NieR. He also wears a giant and rather unsettling moon mask for some reason. The NieR franchise is known for rich and complex lore, with a story spanning thousands of years that occasionally dips into a parallel universe. Wikimedia Commons Evangelion veteran Kazuya Tsurumaki will be on hand to direct episodes, which is nice for long-time fans. He directed the Rebuild of Evangelion films and the recent Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX anime. Composer Keiichi Okabe, from the NieR franchise, is scoring the new show. The new series will be produced by Studio Khara and Cloverworks. While we know a fair bit about who's behind the scenes of the upcoming show, we don't know anything about the plot. We don't know if it's yet another remake of the original story, a sequel or some kind of spin-off like the chibi-inspired Petit Eva: Evangelion@School. There's a trailer, but it's light on details. New "Neon Genesis Evangelion" ANIME SERIES NEW TRAILER Written by Yoko Taro Directors: Kazuya Tsurumaki & Toko Yatabe Music: Keiichi Okabe Animation Production: CloverWorks x Khara pic.twitter.com/jnJZ12XSRb — Captain Melvin Seahorse⚘️ (@sshiroux19) February 23, 2026 With Taro on board, it could really go in any direction. It's worth remembering, after all, that NieR is actually a spin-off of a PS2 game called Drakengard. In one of the multiple endings of that game, a final boss is transported from a fantasy realm to modern-day Tokyo. Slaying this beast releases a virus that plagues humankind, which is what eventually leads to the post-apocalyptic setting of NieR. This is sort of like if the events of a Dragon Quest game somehow led to the world of Resident Evil. If there's anyone

Show HN: A native macOS client for Hacker News, built with SwiftUI

Hey HN! I built a native macOS desktop client for Hacker News and I'm open-sourcing it under the MIT license. GitHub: https://github.com/IronsideXXVI/Hacker-News Download (signed & notarized DMG, macOS 14.0+): https://github.com/IronsideXXVI/Hacker-News/releases Screenshots: https://github.com/IronsideXXVI/Hacker-News#screenshots I spend a lot of time reading HN — I wanted something that felt like a proper Mac app: a sidebar for browsing stories, an integrated reader for articles, and comment threading — all in one window. Essentially, I wanted HN to feel like a first-class citizen on macOS, not a website I visit. What it does: - Split-view layout — stories in a sidebar on the left, articles and comments on the right, using the standard macOS NavigationSplitView pattern. - Built-in ad blocking — a precompiled WKContentRuleList blocks 14 major ad networks (DoubleClick, Google Syndication, Criteo, Taboola, Outbrain, Amazon ads, etc.) right in the WebKit layer. No extensions needed. Toggleable in settings. - Pop-up blocking — kills window.open() calls. Also toggleable. - HN account login — full authentication flow (login, account creation, password reset). Session is stored in the macOS Keychain, and cookies are injected into the WebView so you can upvote, comment, and submit stories while staying logged in. - Bookmarks — save stories locally for offline access. Persisted with Codable serialization, searchable and filterable independently. - Search and filtering — powered by the Algolia HN API. Filter by content type (All, Ask, Show, Jobs, Comments), date range (Today, Past Week, Past Month, All Time), and sort by hot or recent. - Scroll progress indicator — a small orange bar at the top tracks your reading progress via JavaScript-to-native messaging. - Auto-updates via Sparkle with EdDSA-signed updates served from GitHub Pages. - Dark mode — respects system appearance with CSS and meta tag injection. Tech details for the curious: The whole app is ~2,050 lines of Swift

Here are my favorite things from Toy Fair 2026

Toy Fair 2026 just wrapped earlier this week and while I would have liked to spend even more time there, I have my own kids (and all their toys and trinkets) to look after. That said, there were a ton of cool new products on display at the Javits Center in New York City that set the stage for the rest of the year, so here's a quick look at some of the most interesting releases from the largest toy show in the Western Hemisphere.  Transformers: The Movie 40th anniversary figures ($28 to $60) To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Transformers: The Movie, Hasbro is launching an apology tour to make up for traumatizing theatergoers with the death of the most beloved Autobot back in 1986. To kick things off, Hasbro is releasing a handful of new figures alongside re-releases for some popular bots including Astrotrain, Skywarp, Snarl and Shockwave. I want to give a special shout-out to the model for Kranix, which looks incredibly accurate, as if he just leapt off the movie screen. And even though his duck-billed spaceship alt-mode might look a bit awkward, I wouldn't have it any other way.  The crown jewel of the line might be a near-life-size version of The Matrix of Leadership, which measures more than 15 inches wide and even plays Stan Bush's iconic song "The Touch" with the push of a button. Unfortunately, the appeal of the Matrix is so powerful that it's already sold out, including at third-party retailers like Big Bad Toy Store, which thankfully is still taking pre-orders for the rest of the lineup after the initial stock from Hasbro dried up. F1 Hot Wheels A collection of some of the new F1 Hot Wheels cars for 2026. Sam Rutherford for Engadget Hot Wheels has big plans for 2026 including a new line of Pantone-colored cars, Brick Shop models like the Elite Series Aston Martin (which comes with its own 1:64 scale car) and a Monster Truck Mutant Chaos set with actual slime. However, I'd argue the company's new F1 offerings are the cream of the crop. Not only are the
