on February 26, 2026 Congressman Scott Peters announced Tuesday he is running for reelection to California’s 50th Congressional District, which includes parts of Escondido. He emphasized his work to lower costs and strengthen the economy, support veterans, protect the environment and deliver results for the San Diego region. He also highlighted his strong opposition to the Trump Administration’s policies. “It’s been an honor to represent the cities of San Diego, Coronado, Poway, Escondido, and other parts of the county in Congress,” Peters said. “My mission is simple: work with everyone, regardless of politics or party, to solve problems and get things done. I’ll never stop working to lower costs, create jobs, and support San Diego’s key economic engines. I’ll keep pushing for a cleaner energy future to slow climate change, find innovative ways to bring down the cost of healthcare and prescription drugs, secure funding to fix the cross-border sewage crisis, fight for human rights and to protect our democracy.” He added, “I oppose President Trump’s corruption and cruelty, his disregard for justice and the rule of law, and I am particularly horrified by his use of federal forces against our own city and country.” The newly drawn 50th congressional district of California includes much of the city of San Diego, all of Coronado, Poway, and Santee, portions of Escondido, and other unincorporated parts of San Diego County, such as Ramona. Peters previously represented many of the new areas in the new district. For more information, visit www.scottpeters.com.
