Apple Might Announce Colorful, Low-Cost MacBook on March 4

And probably new MacBooks, iPads, and an affordable iPhone very soon, too.

Full Article

In about two weeks, on March 4, Apple is going to announce something. Maybe a bunch of somethings. That’s about all we can glean from the invite the company sent to Gizmodo. The “Apple Experience,” held in New York City (and London and Shanghai), shows an Apple logo made up of yellow, green, and light blue discs. Is it a hint at what’s to come? Cannot wait to see the rumored low-cost MacBook—MacBook E?! pic.twitter.com/n2orr64wIy — Ray Wong (@raywongy) February 17, 2026 Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says Apple could be hinting at the colors that the long-rumored low-cost MacBook could launch in. In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman said Apple “developed a new manufacturing process” that allows the aluminum shells to be created faster. It could also be the reason why Apple is finally introducing more fun colors to its laptops. Gurman said Apple has also tested pink, silver, and dark gray, but doesn’t believe the low-cost MacBook will ship in every tested shade. This new MacBook is expected to be unusual for several reasons. The first is, of course, the cost—rumored to be a few hundred dollars less than the 13-inch MacBook Air with M4 chip, which starts at $999. That laptop is arguably one of the best values you can buy, considering it has 16GB of RAM and the performant M4 chip, all packed into a slim design that weighs only 2.7 pounds. How low will Apple go with pricing for a laptop that’s expected to come in at just under 13 inches? $799? $699? $599? At a time when electronics are getting more expensive because of the great RAM and storage shortage—an industry problem created by AI data centers gobbling up the components from suppliers—Apple announcing a laptop that costs less instead of more would earn it a lot of points with consumers. The second reason I’m so intrigued is that the laptop will reportedly be powered by an iPhone chip—the A18 Pro. For those keeping track, that’s the same chip inside of the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max. If you’re looking at the A18 Pro chip and thinking it’ll be insufficient, let me remind you that it’s “46% faster than the M1 in single-core tasks, and almost identical to the M1 on multi-core and graphics tasks,” according to Six Colors’ Jason Snell. For basic computing such as web browsing, watching videos, and working with documents, this low-cost computer could really sing. In fact, it might even have better battery performance than a MacBook Air with M-series silicon. And third is, yes, the colors. Look, as much as I love silver and space gray, it’s about damn time that Apple gets playful with the MacBook. The iMac with M4 chip has fun colors, so why not Apple’s laptops? A variety of colors would help market the low-cost MacBook as anything but boring. New MacBook Air and MacBook Pros, too? The low-cost MacBook is expected to be the highlight of Apple’s March 4 event, but we could also see a new MacBook Air with M5 chip and updated 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros with beefier M5 Pro and M5 Max chips “over the course of the next several weeks,” according to Gurman. The Bloomberg reporter also said on X that he’s expecting new Mac displays, referring to an updated version of the Apple Studio Display, possibly with a rumored higher 90Hz refresh rate. “There’s also a new Mac Studio, iMac and Mac mini this year. Huge year for the Mac. And that doesn’t even include the touch MacBook Pro end of 2026.” iPhone 17e and new iPads On the smartphone and tablet front, Apple might announce a refreshed version of its $599 iPhone 16e, expected to be called the iPhone 17e. The more affordable iPhone with a 6-core CPU and 6-core GPU is reportedly “imminent”, according to Gurman. Meanwhile, a 12th-gen entry-level iPad with an A18 chip could also be right around the corner. Similarly, Gurman believes that new iPad Airs with M4 chips are “coming soon.”

Apple's first event of the year will reportedly bring at least five products over a 'three-day blitz'

Ready your wallets if you've been thinking about upgrading your Apple products. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple will announce "at least five products," starting on Monday, March 2, and extending to its scheduled "experience" on Wednesday, March 4. There's a long list of potential options that Apple could announce next month, but Gurman is confident in a few. According to the report, Apple is "very likely" to reveal the low-cost MacBook, especially considering the event logo's choice of colors that could reference the new laptop colors. Gurman also predicted that Apple could announce the iPhone 17e, since its predecessor was launched last spring, and an iPad Air that's updated with the M4 chip. Previous rumors point to Apple getting ready to drop the upgraded MacBook Pro, which will likely get M5 Pro and Max chips, and the new MacBook Air with the base M5 chip. If that wasn't enough, Apple could even debut the refreshed Mac Studio and a new Apple Studio Display since the two desktop-oriented options were already expected to be released in the first half of the year. There hasn't been any confirmation from Apple directly, but it may have left behind some hints for this "three-day blitz" of product announcements. Going off Apple's wording, the March 4 event will be an "Apple Experience" with locations in New York, London and Shanghai, which doesn't sound like the typical format of an event with keynote addresses that's paired with a livestream. Gurman also noted that Apple usually announces its new products on Tuesday, unlike the official Wednesday timing. The Morning After: What to expect from Apple’s March 4 hardware event

Apple has lined up its first event of the year. Already! It’s taking place in New York City on March 4 at 9AM ET, but the company hasn’t confirmed if it will stream the media event. It seems likely the event will be mainly iPads and MacBooks — so business as usual. However, it could include new entry-level MacBooks in a fresh array of colors. I think that’s what everyone’s reading into the lemon-and-lime tinged invitation. I’m very much up for a return of the colorful Mac. The first Mac I ever used was one of those bubbly orange iMacs, interning at a video-game magazine. Yes, a magazine. We’re also expecting a 2026 MacBook Air and refreshed 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros, with the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips also breaking cover. Is it too early for an iPhone 17e? Perhaps. We’ll be reporting from the event. And for those asking about yesterday's newsletter, thanks for your continued support and we'll have more to say soon.  — Mat Smith The other big stories (and deals) this morning Meta’s metaverse is going mobile-first Meta reportedly plans to release a smartwatch this year Ring could be planning to expand Search Party feature beyond dogs Netflix’s first MMA livestream is coming in May Rousey v. Carano. Netflix is streaming its very first live MMA fight on May 16. The combatants are Ronda Rousey, (last match 2016) and Gina Carano (2009). The streamer has had to pluck fighters out of retirement because more contemporary stars are under contract with various promotional entities. The featherweight bout will take place inside a hexagon cage and stream globally — hopefully, Netflix can keep its stream up. The fight is co-hosted by Most Valuable Productions, Jake Paul’s production company. Because of course it is. Continue reading. The Pixel 10a is your next midrange Android phone It launches March 5. Here's what to expect at Apple's product launch event on March 4

Apple has scheduled a product launch event, dubbed an "Apple Experience", for March 4 at 9AM ET. The company is reportedly holding this event in NYC, London and Shanghai. Everyone loves shiny new products, so what can we expect to see at Apple's first launch event of 2026? We don't know anything for certain, but we have plenty of educated guesses that have been sourced from industry reports and speculation from analysts. Budget-Friendly MacBook There have been rumors swirling that Apple is preparing to launch a cheaper alternative to the MacBook Air. Bloomberg reported on this all the way back in November. Industry rumors indicate that Apple will be stuffing this laptop with an iPhone processor, the A18 Pro, to keep the price down. Worth pointing out the three colors from the invite are light green, blue and yellow -- which just so happen to be the colors Apple has tested the low-cost MacBook with, as I wrote yesterday. Coincidence? We shall see. https://t.co/1FFVkfw9JZ pic.twitter.com/ssKDDzdJsw — Mark Gurman (@markgurman) February 16, 2026 It's also been suggested that this laptop will only include 8GB of RAM, which kind of flies against the company's recent stance to outfit all Macs with at least 16GB of RAM. However, that would certainly help with the cost. You might have heard about a little thing called AI that chomp chomps on all RAM it can find. TechRadar has reported that this could be Apple's biggest laptop launch in years, with potential initial shipments hitting 8 million units. The price is likely to be somewhere in the $699 to $799 range, which is pretty nifty. However, I'd still go for an Air at $999. They are absolute workhorses. MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and Max chips It's likely that Apple will release more powerful MacBook Pro models this year and the timing seems to match up. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has suggested a March launch and the event is on March 4. The company has already released a MacBook Pro with an M5 chip, but both the M5 Pro and Ma

Apple’s doing something on March 4th

Apple is hosting a "special Apple experience" in New York City on Wednesday, March 4th at 9AM ET, instead of at the Apple Park location it typically uses for events. It's also hosting press in the cities of London and Shanghai at the same time. The invitation includes the words "You're invited" and an Apple logo depicted in segmented discs of yellow, green, and blue (the rumored colors of a new low-cost MacBook). Otherwise, it provides no hints about the purpose of the so-called experience. However, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has previously said that he's expecting Apple to launch a low-cost A18 Pro chip-powered MacBook and new MacBook Airs, M … Read the full story at The Verge.

Apple's next event is set for March 4

Apple has lined up its first event of the year. The company has invited members of the press to an “Apple Experience” that’s taking place in New York City on March 4 at 9AM ET. It hasn’t yet confirmed whether it will stream the event publicly. According to MacRumors, versions of this Apple Experience will also take place simultaneously in London and Shanghai. It seems likely that Apple will take this opportunity to unveil its latest slate of iPads and MacBooks. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported earlier this month that Apple was planning to make a number of hardware announcements “as early as the week of March 2.” Apple This is expected to include a new MacBook Air and refreshed 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros, with the M5 Pro and M5 Max making their debuts (a MacBook Pro with the base M5 chip arrived in October). There’s also speculation that Apple will announce a new entry-level MacBook that will be available in light yellow, light green, blue and pink colorways. In addition, we may see new iPads here (or perhaps a little farther down the line), including an entry-level model with an A18 chip that’s capable of supporting Apple Intelligence features. The iPad Air could be in line for an upgrade as well with the introduction of the M4 chip to that line. Apple is also expected to roll out updated versions of the Mac Studio, Studio Display and Mac mini later this year.
